Tap/Ballet Combo

Toddler Dance Classes

Our first, second, and third-year beginner classes are tap and ballet combo classes. This combo is the perfect age-appropriate pre-school introduction to dance while enhancing motor skills and coordination.

Tapping helps to teach balance, coordination, rhythm, and musicality. It’s an important part of a well-rounded dance education. Many young children love tap class because of the noise the tap shoes make and that they can respond to the music. Students are able to practice their timing by making the sounds together as a class. Repeating, reversing, and counting patterns reinforce math concepts for young students.

Ballet is the foundation of all dance and teaches grace, posture, flexibility, and balance. Students in a beginner combo class will be introduced to the classic ballet positions and basic ballet terms while working at the barre and through simple center floor exercises with the skills building each year.

Tap/ballet combo classes will only dance in one routine at our annual dance revue. Through our years of experience, we have found that one revue dance is more age-appropriate for the younger dancer, eliminates extra costs for multiple costumes, and allows the first few revues for the student to be more relaxed and stress-free without worries of costume changes.

Classes are placed by ability and class availability, not age or years danced. Ages and years listed on the schedule are only a guide. Students may be moved before or after classes begin as we work to find the best class suited for each student. Classes may be added, canceled, or combined depending upon enrollment. Our classes, beginning with first-year classes, strive to teach fundamentals and proper dance technique. Due to this, we ask that students be at least 2 1/2 years old to begin. Our years of experience have shown that this the best age to begin these classes. We pride ourselves on the fact that “Our babies dance!

For tap/ballet combo classes, students should wear a leotard (any color, skirt optional) and tights.

Tap/Jazz Combo

Tap and Jazz Dance Classes

Tap offers an upbeat and fun approach to Broadway-style tap dancing. Tapping consists of learning and memorizing rhythm patterns and works a separate center of the brain than most dance genres. Tap is an important foundation for dance teaching rhythm and musicality.

Jazz is a popular, high-energy form of dance. In this combo class, students will begin to learn kicks, leaps, and turns. Dancers will learn body placement, movement, expression, and proper technique.

For students who later want to explore other forms of dance, tap and jazz offer a solid foundation and starting point. Besides traditional dance knowledge, these classes help students learn self-confidence, strength, flexibility, posture, range of motion, self-control, friendship, and vocabulary that will help take them through whatever activities they chose in the future.

5th year and up combo classes will dance TWO routines in the annual dance recital (upon teacher discretion.)

Hip-Hop

Be Bop Beginner Hip-Hop Dance Classes

Hip Hop dance classes are popular and a perfect choice for energetic kids who are always on the move and enjoy popular music. Our beginner Be Bop Hip-Hop classes are a fun introduction to Hip-Hop for the younger dancer.

Hip Hop is a style of dance derived from African dance. Hip Hop dance is a balance of letting go and being loose with your body and movements, while at the same time controlling them. Whether it is fast or slow, Hip Hop is a style of dance that is filled with character, attitude, and fun! This is a great way to encourage creativity and expression through dance classes for children.

For hip-hop classes, students should wear clean tennis shoes and any activewear.

Ballet

Ballet Dance Classes

Ballet classes develop awareness for posture and body alignment and teach ballet vocabulary, terminology, and technique. Classes include barre work, center floor work, and across the floor exercises. Students will demonstrate movement quality, body carriage, balance, strength, and flexibility as well as performance quality and confidence.

PLEASE NOTE: Our year-end ballet performance is a production that combines all of our ballet students into one large ballet performance during our revues. We know that this is a commitment, but it is a wonderful experience for our dancers and a real treat for our audience.

Ballet students are required to attend 2 Saturday rehearsals to practice combining the classes.

Many students in ballet-only classes perform in the ballet at all 3 of our year-end revues. Some ballet classes will only perform in their studio’s revue. Many factors go into this decision including how the class is progressing, the number of students in the class, and how many songs are available for the production we have chosen that year. An announcement will be made in November as to which classes will perform in which revues. Unfortunately, we cannot determine that at this time.

Students must be 7 years old to begin ballet-only classes.

Ballet students are placed into the appropriate level ballet class by Kelli in consultation with our ballet instructors.

Technique

Technique classes are important to every dancer wanting to build their dance skills. These classes work on proper technique and body placement for leaps, jumps, and turns. Technique classes focus on building strength, endurance, and flexibility. Classes are taught in a progressive manner beginning with the basics and advancing to high-level skills and combinations of those skills in center floor and across the floor combinations.
